There are some moments in movies that we all love. When the guy finally gets the girl, we smile. When the twist is revealed at the end, we are all shocked. When the tension reaches an extreme, we all are ready to bite our nails off. One moment that we all love is when there are cars on the screen. Cars can create iconic moments in movies that will stay with people for a lifetime. They are so powerful that we no longer refer to some cars by their name but by the movie they were in, “Look, the Back to the Future car just drove by”. Here are the most iconic moments in movie history that featured cars.
Jurassic Park
While Jurassic Park is famous for dinosaurs we all know that when those jeeps appeared on the screen we all wanted one. The open-top vehicle with its colorful design became an instant classic. Since the movie, we have seen a couple appear on the streets and they are always a treat on the eyes. For me personally, I would want a batmobile, then a Delorean, then the ghostbusters car, and then the Jurassic jeep. Classics.
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
I don’t remember much about Chitty Chitty Bang Bang but I do remember when the car flies for the first time. This is likely one of the first car movie memories for many film lovers and so holds a special place in all of our hearts.
The Dark Knight
Of course, the batmobile is one of the most iconic cars ever in movie history but for some reason that is not what we are talking about here (perhaps a poor reflection on the survey). Instead, this moment is when Bruce Wayne creates a car accident in his Lamborgini to save a life. A good car moment but not a patch on some of the scenes with the batmobile.
Thelma and Louise
The famous scene where the pair decide to drive off a cliff together instead of being captured by the police would not have worked so well on bicycles. Sometimes cars are essential to the actual story and that is clearly true in the next moment as well.
Back to the Future
Back to the Future was voted the fourth most iconic moment in movie history but could have easily gotten the top spot. As the DeLorean was used to travel through time everyone’s view of that car and cars in general changed forever.
Grease
Grease really is the word when it comes to cars. The movie was voted third in the most iconic movie moments when John Travolta jumps on top of the Ford De Luxe.
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
A surprise entry at number two is Harry Potter. Ron and Harry flying through the UK in the Ford Anglia is something that is in movie lovers’ hearts forever. While the film was only released in 2002 it is now regarded as a classic movie scene.
The Italian Job
It is no surprise to see this movie top the list. The Italian Job will always be known as the movie with the most impressive car chase. It lasted an incredible six minutes and changed how we look at the mini forever.
The results are from a survey in the UK of 2,000 film lovers and their favorite film and car movie moments. We have no doubt the results would be different if car lovers were asked about their favorite movie moments instead. For a fact, we know that Swordfish and Bond would feature a lot higher.
