Top cars that are produced in France

France does not possess the number of car brands that are seen in countries like Germany or the United States. However, this does not mean France has not produced vehicles the nation can be proud of. The following are some of the top cars France has to offer.

Citroen 2CV

The Citroen 2CV is similar in appearance and identical in purpose to the Volkswagon Beetle produced in Germany. The 2CV was designed to provide the people of France an urban commuter vehicle for an affordable price. A bit of interesting information is that the French government once taxed car owners based on the horsepower their car possessed. The 2CV was known as the “two tax horsepower” since it possessed two horsepower. Despite its apparent lack of power, the car was a hit with French car buyers.

Renault Megane

Automakers around the world have been working to come up with the perfect sports hatchback since the 1970s. The Renault Megane is France’s entry into this competition. The Megane has been available in France since 1995 and has pushed itself as both a comfortable daily vehicle as well as a track toy. The Megane has also been used as a Rally race car and secured both the European and British Championships.

Venturi Coupe 260

Venturi is a relatively unknown car due to the fact the brand did not make many cars. However, the models Venturi did make were very popular. This is especially true for the Venturi Coupe 260. Venturi only made 188 Coupe 260s and the car enjoys rare sports car status. The car sports a 90s look that comes complete with squared edges and pop-up headlights.

Renault 5 Turbo 2

France never misses an opportunity to prove its devotion to rally racing. The Turbo 2 from Renault was the brand’s answer to recent rally cars from Peugeot and Citroen. The 4-cylinder engine that drives the car is capable of pushing 200 horsepower. The car won rally championships in Spain, France, and Portugal.

Bugatti Type 5

Jay Leno is known by fans to be an avid car collector. One of the cars he owns is a Bugatti Type 51. The Type 51 never reached the prominence of the Type 35 car but was more than a worthy follow-up to the legendary sports car. Twin overhead camshafts were added to the Type 51 and its a great representative of motorsports for its time.

Renault Alpine 110

The Alpine 110 was built a few years after World War II and was unique for its mid-engine design. The car scored high marks for every category in which it was considered. Renault brought the Alpine 110 back in 2017 and a new generation of automobile lovers fell in love with the classic design of the car.

Bugatti Type 57CS Atlantic

The Type 57CS Atlantic is one of the few cars ever produced that could match the Ferrari 250 GTO for both cost and history. The 57CS Atlantic comes with a price tag of $40 million and car enthusiasts who can afford the car will attest to the fact that it is worth every penny.
